Swipe2Vote ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Account information — name and email address when you sign up as a poll creator.
  • Poll content — titles, option text, and images you upload when creating polls.
  • Voter names — only if a poll creator explicitly enables name collection and you choose to provide one.

Information collected automatically

  • Session identifiers — a random ID stored in your browser's localStorage to track your vote session and prevent duplicate votes. No account is required.
  • Usage data — pages visited, actions taken, and general interaction patterns via Vercel Analytics. This data is aggregated and never tied to individual users.
  • Device and browser information — browser type, operating system, and screen size for improving the experience.

Information we do not collect

  • We do not collect your IP address for tracking purposes.
  • We do not use third-party advertising trackers or sell your data.

2. How We Use Your Information

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS). We enforce:

  • Row-level security on all database tables — you can only access your own data.
  • HTTPS for all data in transit.
  • No plaintext passwords — authentication is handled via Google OAuth or magic links.

Poll images are stored in a publicly readable storage. Do not upload images containing sensitive personal information.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider.
  • Vercel — our hosting and analytics provider (aggregated only).
  • Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google OAuth.
  • Legal obligations — if required by law or to protect our rights.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser localStorage (not cookies) to store your anonymous session ID for voting. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to third parties.

We do not use tracking cookies or third-party cookie-based analytics.

6. Voter Privacy

  • Voting is anonymous by default. No account is needed.
  • Your votes are linked to a session ID stored only in your browser.
  • If a poll creator has enabled voter name collection, that name is stored alongside your votes and visible to the poll creator only.
  • You can clear your session data at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Export your data in a portable format.

8. Data Retention

  • Poll creator accounts and poll data are retained as long as your account is active.
  • You may delete your polls at any time from the dashboard.
  • Anonymous vote session IDs are not linked to individuals and are retained for analytics purposes.

9. Children's Privacy

Swipe2Vote is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the latest version. Continued use of Swipe2Vote after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
